Sneak Peek: Urban Decay Vice Lipstick.

Urban Decay is bringing IT in a big way! In case you have missed the news, the edgy brand is doing away with their Revolution Lipstick and introducing a BRAND NEW Vice Lipstick and the launch is HUGE. Not only will each of their retailers carry 100 shades of Vice Lipsticks (making this their biggest lineup yet), there are 6 new indulgent finishes to choose from and love. There really is a shades and a formula here for everyone. And with a reduced price at just $17 a pop, you'll be inclined to pick up more than a few.

SO let's break it all down. Urban Decay is launching a new lipstick called Vice Lipstick. It will be available on June 5th. There will be 120 shades in all, with every retailer that carries Urban Decay carrying 100 shades. There will be 20 shades that are exclusive to Sephora. There are 6 finishes which I will describe below. Several shades were inspired by other UD products and many past lipstick shades are returning (thank goodness!). There are also 50 - you read that right - 50 new lip pencils that are launching along with the new Vice Lipstick.

Vice Lipstick comes in an updated, modern version of their original case, called a lipstick bullet. Although it is new, it definitely speaks to the brands roots. It's very luxe with a gunmetal finish and gold base with Urban Decay lettering on the side. The bottom of each bullet contains a label in the color of the shade with the shade name. Super smart!

Now for the Vice Lipstick finishes. As I mentioned, there are 6 finishes in all.

  • Mega Matte - Super-intense matte
  • Comfort Matte - The brands creamiest matte
  • Cream - The original creamy, badass luxury formula
  • Metallized - Cream with a high level of pearl
  • Sheer - A punch of color with a sheer, shiny finish
  • Sheer Shimmer - Slightly transparent finish with a floating pearl and a smooth texture

Urban Decay sent me Wende's 10 top shade picks to test (Wende Zomnir is the creator of Urban Decay) and I had so much fun trying them all. I will covet them!

Pandemonium - Bright Purple (Mega Matte finish)
Rock Steady - Deep Wine Red (Cream finish)
714 - Bright Red (Mega Matte finish)
Big Bang -  Bright Fuchsia Pink with Shimmer (Metallized finish)
Firebird - Deep Fuchsia (Cream finish)
Menace - Medium Fuchsia Pink (Comfort Matte finish)
Naked - Nude Pink (Cream finish)
Backtalk - Mauve Nude Pink (Comfort Matte finish)
Conspiracy - Plum Bronze Shimmer (Metallized finish)
Disturbed - Deep Brick Red (Comfort Matte finish)

I expected the formula to be great like most of Urban Decay's products and I was right. I was seriously impressed with the Vice Lipstick and I can tell that I'll be purchasing many more shades. The pigment in each Vice Lipstick is incredible. You really get an unbelievable amount of color with just one swipe of lipstick. It applies very smoothly without dragging and the formula feels really creamy - almost hydrating on my lips. I would guess that is because the formula actually contains a blend of butters and oils to nourish and soften lips while wearing so not only is the color long-lasting, the moisture is too.

Out of what I tried, my favorites are Naked and Backtalk for sure. Firebird and Menace are both gorgeous for summer and Big Bang was unexpectedly very pretty and I wore it all weekend.

Buy the Urban Decay Vice Lipstick for $17 each from Sephora, Ulta Beauty, Nordstrom, beauty.com, urbandecay.com and select Macy's stores. The 24/7 Glide-On Lip Pencils are $20.

To see each and every new Vice Lipstick swatched, check out Temptalia's post or Mariah Leonard's video. Notice how different many of them look in the swatches in photo versus video - one of the many reasons I don't swatch. You need to see makeup in person and check it out for yourself!
